Announcing the Flink Enterprise Local Client - The next generation P2P video client for enterprise video streaming
Today we proudly announce the first release of our local client for Strive Flink Enterprise. This release is a significant step towards Strive’s support of large enterprise network setups which still rely primarily on Microsoft IE or Edge environments. Furthermore, even advanced setups can benefit from our local client through higher savings and more comprehensive Analytics KPIs.
The Flink Enterprise Local Client is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, and multiple smart TV environments.
Why WebRTC is almost always a good idea...
Our initial approach to dealing with enterprise P2P streaming focused on high flexibility and easy integration. When we started development 7 years ago, one of our principal objects was compatibility and a flexible integration process. The advantages of this setup are compatibility with any media player and streaming protocol without the needs of plugins, software rollouts or configuration. The use of WebRTC as core communication protocol turned out as the right choice, as its strong growth of support among web browsers proves today.
However, some cases require special treatment. WebRTC and HTML5-based live streaming usually require modern browser implementations. Especially in large enterprise networks, this is not always the case. As software updates and rollouts require many resources, companies find themselves equipped with software that is not of the highest standards anymore. In those situations, the advantages of WebRTC mentioned previously transform into disadvantages. Especially browsers like Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer show a lack of WebRTC support. Thus, even recent versions of Microsoft Edge or IE might cause trouble.
...why sometimes it's just not and what to do about it
In contrast, a locally installed software client offers new possibilities. It is independent of other software and provides all required services on its own. Such software can work with existing infrastructure and existing technology stacks much easier.
While the integration of this new piece of software requires slightly more effort, basically any given setup can work with it. This trade between flexibility and compatibility is what we can now offer to companies that want to enrich their enterprise streaming infrastructure with the power of WebRTC and P2P streaming.
With Strive now supporting local P2P deployments within a corporate network, we strengthen our position as a best-in-class P2P video provider. We will continue to improve our Flink Enterprise product. If you are interested in seeing the technology in action, ping us via our contact form or just call. We are happy to help!
